ARLA Spindle Units are structured as modular components dedicated to a high variety of machining processes. The integration of direct servo drives in every unit is a dominant feature to be flexible in manufacturing lines or special purpose machine tools (also reasonable for retrofitting purposes). Furthermore the spindle units may be combined with ARLA Slide & Table Units to realize complete CNC controlled machining units with 1 or 2 axes.

Complete ARLA Machining Units with Spindle & Slide

There are models for various applications: model DA is used as a universal spindle unit with a directly driven servo motor, the models DB, DC are powerful motor spindle units (with internal water cooling for the spindle).

All ARLA Spindle Units have excellent performance features:

  • high-precision concentric running within a tolerance of 2 µm (depending on different models)

  • motor power between 6 and 50 kW (depending on different models)

  • operating speeds depending on the models up to 6,000 rpm

  • constant spindle torques up to the max. operating speed
between 20 and 850 Nm (depending on the drive and the model)

  • tool clamp: HSK-A 50, 63, 80, 100, 125 (for DA, DB) or HSK-B with automatic tool clamp (for DC)

  • facing head size: 125, 160, 200, 250, 320-400

  • special models with higher speeds or higher torques on request

The spindle models DX are innovative units with an integrated motor spindle including a facing equipment. The facing systems are – according to customer's requirements – available as single slide, or double slide heads optionally counterweighted to support higher spindle speeds. In fact there is an additional radial CNC tool axis implemented. The facing head concept enables the contour machining of a fixed workpiece (instead of the conventional and often inconvenient application of turning machines). Due to the new ARLA technology this concept is much better, more accurate and flexible so that the machining process is optimized. Please note the following typical ID/OD machining applications for the DX units: contour machining, facing and grooving, taper drilling and boring with a single tool, taper threading (with any shapes), further complex cutting applications, etc.

Due to ARLA's modular concept, all units (slide, table, spindle units) can be combined to a horizontal or vertical machining system.

A typical example of ARLA's spindle units is the endworking of shafts, pipes and tubes. In connection with ARLA's slide units and workholding fixtures a powerful CNC controlled endworking station can be realized (see the following figure); see also further information on the special site ARLA Endworking.
